BOSTON —  A judge who resigned after being caught driving drunk in New Hampshire while in drag says he's reconsidering his decision to quit.

U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Robert Somma said in a letter to Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly posted Tuesday that an outpouring of support from judges, lawyers and others led him to reconsider.

He said he no longer thought the "media frenzy" over his Feb. 6 arrest would be an impediment to his job.

He also apologized for his "terrible lapse of judgment."

Somma rear-ended a pickup truck at a red light in Manchester, N.H. He was wearing a cocktail dress and high heels.

Somma resigned a few days after pleading guilty to drunken driving. He agreed to a fine and his license was suspended for a year.

Somma says he's discussing his job status with the U.S. Court of Appeals.
