A judge says it will be up to the defense to prove that Naveed Haq (nah-VEED' hahk) was insane when he killed a woman and wounded five others at the Jewish Federation office in Seattle.

The 32-year-old Tri-Cities man has pleaded innocent by reason of insanity, and in Wednesday's ruling King County Superior Court Judge Paris Kallas said the burden of proof lies with the defense, not prosecutors.

Defense lawyers say Haq was delusion because of a change in drugs for a schizophrenic or bipolar disorder. Prosecutors say he carefully planned the attack.

Haq is accused of shooting up the office in July of 2006 to make a point about Jews and the Iraq war. He's charged with murder, attempted murder and a hate crime.

Opening statements are scheduled for April 14 in Seattle.
