Disney is about to get some competition in the high-school-musical genre. Nickelodeon will begin shooting the TV movie "Spectacular!" this month, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The comedy centers on a preppy high-school student (Tammin Sursok) who is one of the last good performers in the school's Spectacular choir after the best people graduated or defected to a rival squad. A too-cool rocker (Nolan Funk) joins the choir to try to win prize money but finds a romantic connection with the preppy student. "Spectacular!" is still awaiting an airdate, but Nickelodeon has an option on the stars for possible sequels. Since the Disney Channel's "High School Musical" has spawned one sequel with another on the way set for theatrical release, it's not a bad idea to be prepared. Director Robert Iscove ("She's All That") will shoot the film in Vancouver, B.C. Copyright © 2008 The Seattle Times Company
