NOUAKCHOTT, Mauritania (AP) Witnesses and officials say a man accused of killing four French tourists has escaped from a West African courthouse.
Sidi Ould Sidna was being interrogated at the main courthouse in Mauritania's capital Wednesday when he asked his guards for permission to go to the bathroom. A witness says the guards allowed him to go in by himself, but did not guard the doorway. When he re-emerged and did not see the guards, Sidna ran for the door, losing himself in the crowd outside. The four French tourists — including two children — were gunned down on a roadside in December. Copyright 2008 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
