A man died last night after a fight in a Malton basement apartment.

The man, whose name and age are not being released, died in hospital after paramedics took him from the home on Shallford Rd. in the Airport Rd. and Morning Star Dr. area of Mississauga around 7:15 p.m.

An autopsy was scheduled for this morning.

The homicide was Peel's ninth of the year. The region had a total of 14 for all of 2007. Toronto, by comparison, has had 13 so far this year.

Police described the semi-detached brick home as a rooming house and said several people were in the residence at the time.

While Const. Samantha Nulle said nobody was arrested, neighbours said they watched a man being led away in handcuffs.
