Intel began selling speedier versions of its low-power processors for blade computers, the fastest-growing part of the server market. The new Xeon processors run as much as 25 percent faster and have 50 percent more built-in memory than their predecessors, Intel said in a statement. Revenue for makers of blade servers, thin computers that are built on circuit boards and stacked in data-center racks, rose 45 percent last year, according to Stamford, Conn., research firm Gartner. The computers help manage Web sites and corporate networks. Data-center managers are demanding more efficient processors because of space constraints and soaring energy costs. IBM, Hewlett-Packard, Dell, Sun Microsystems and Fujitsu Siemens - the five largest makers of server computers - will all offer machines based on Intel's new chips.
