Andy Lark is responsible for about 1000 employees at Dell.
It is eight months since Andy Lark traded life in Silicon Valley start-up Loglogic for a plum job at computer maker Dell where the job title seems tailor-made for the Kiwi technology entrepreneur.
As vice president of global marketing and communications, Lark is responsible for Dell.com, the company's primary e-commerce operation through which hundreds of millions of dollars in orders for computers are placed every week, a host of social networking efforts and Dell's overall communications strategy.
Last week Dell revealed it would close its desktop computer factory with the loss of 900 jobs in Austin, Texas where Lark is now based at Dell's global headquarters.
That's on top of the 8800 jobs Dell previously announced it would cut to shave US$3 billion in costs over the next few years.
If it's a tumultuous time for Dell, Lark says he knew exactly what he was in for when his friend, Dell founder and chief executive Michael Dell, asked him to come aboard.
"That's one of the reasons I went there. I've been part of a few corporate turn-arounds now and Michael [Dell's] appetite for changing the company is enormous."
